What exactly is Christmas all about?

Society would tell us that Christmas is celebrated in memory of Jesus Christ’s birth. But is that really why Christmas is so popular?

I don’t know how many people know this, but Jesus Christ wasn’t really born on the 25th of December. In fact he wasn’t born in this month.
Sure, some people will argue that it’s mostly just celebrating the fact that he was born. That’s all good, but how many people really celebrate it by doing what Christ actually did?

We associate Christmas with gifts, a bearded fat man in a red suit, shopping and celebrations.

But most of Christs life on earth was spent reaching out to the needy and giving people hope.

I don’t know about all you guys, but from what I’ve seen, I don’t really see too many people emulating or imitating him.
We’re all too preoccupied with our Christmas shopping lists and our letters to Santa (not really… but you get my point..) to actually go out and help someone in need. It’s been so commercialized that I’m sure in a couple of generations people will forget why exactly Christmas is celebrated and it’ll just be that time of year when it’s generally cold and people are on holiday and spend lots of money and get discounts at their favorite stores and get the family together for some wine drinking time.

Imitation is the best form of flattery; and so It’s only fair to Christ that in remembering his birthday we go out and do something for other people.

For fear of being called a hypocrite, I’m going to go out and start helping people today right untill the end of the month.
And hopefully somewhere along the way I hope to cultivate a habit of helping people on a regular basis.

What do you guys think about Christmas?
